Bathroom Remodeling

Bathrooms are small rooms with a lot that can go wrong behind the tile. We focus on what you'll see and what you won't: layout, finish and proper waterproofing.

Whether you're updating a main bathroom, converting an unused tub into a walk-in shower or finishing a new ensuite, Ironcrest Contracting plans the room around daily use: storage, lighting, ventilation and easy cleaning. Then we build it so the shower stays watertight for years, not months.

What a bathroom remodel can include

  • Tub-to-shower conversions — removing a tub and building a tiled or panel shower with a low or curbless entry.
  • Tile showers and floors — waterproofing membranes, properly sloped shower bases, and tile set to tight, consistent grout lines.
  • Vanities and storage — vanity installation, medicine cabinets, recessed niches and linen storage.
  • Fixtures and accessories — glass shower doors, mirrors, towel bars and grab bars installed into solid backing.
  • Accessibility upgrades — wider doors, blocking for future grab bars and barrier-free showers; see our accessibility renovation page for more.

Plumbing and electrical work, including fan wiring and fixture connections, is completed by appropriately licensed trades and scheduled as part of your project.

How the project runs

  1. Assessment. We check the subfloor, existing walls and signs of past leaks, since water damage is common in older bathrooms.
  2. Selections and quote. We help narrow down tile, vanity and fixture choices and provide an itemized quote with clear allowances.
  3. Demolition and repairs. Old finishes come out, and any rot or damaged framing is repaired before new work goes in.
  4. Waterproofing, tile and finish. Membranes, tile, grout, fixtures and trim, followed by a final walkthrough.

Good to know before you start

If it's your only bathroom, we'll talk through scheduling so you're without it for as little time as practical. Hidden water damage is the most common surprise in a bathroom remodel; when we find it, we show you, explain the repair and confirm the cost in writing before continuing. Good ventilation matters as much as finishes, so we'll make sure your plan includes an exhaust fan that actually moves moisture out of the room.

What affects the cost of bathroom remodeling

Bathroom pricing depends mostly on size, tile and how much of the room is being changed. A cosmetic update that reuses the existing layout costs far less than a gut renovation that moves the toilet, shower or vanity. Large-format or intricate tile, niches, benches and custom glass add labour and material. Prefabricated shower bases and panels are generally faster to install than fully tiled showers. The condition of the subfloor and framing matters too, since water damage found during demolition must be repaired before new finishes go in. Your quote will separate fixed costs from allowances for items you're still choosing, such as tile, vanities and fixtures.

Bathroom Remodeling questions

How long does a bathroom renovation take?

A straightforward bathroom update can take about one to two weeks, while a full gut renovation with custom tile work usually takes longer. Tile curing times and inspections affect the schedule.

Is a tub-to-shower conversion a good idea?

For many households, yes, especially when a bathtub is rarely used or stepping over it has become difficult. If it's the only tub in the home, families with young children may want to keep one somewhere.

What waterproofing do you use in showers?

We use a manufacturer-tested waterproofing system behind and under the tile rather than relying on grout or tile to keep water out. The specific system is listed in your quote.
