Exterior Doors in Windsor

Exterior Doors for Windsor homes

Windsor's housing ranges from early-1900s homes in Walkerville and the older core to post-war bungalows and newer subdivisions. In older Windsor homes, door openings often aren't standard sizes, and porches or sills may have shifted. We measure carefully and build out or repair openings as needed so a modern pre-hung door fits properly and seals well against the weather.

What's included

Entry doors, patio doors and side doors installed plumb, weather-sealed and secure. Depending on your project, the work can include:

• Front entry doors
• Patio doors
• Side and garage entry doors
• New and widened openings
• Trim and finishing
• Hardware
• Measure and assess.
• Select and quote.
• Install.
• Finish and adjust.

Full details, our process and common questions are on our main exterior doors page.

Local conditions in Windsor

Windsor sees hot, humid summers, strong thunderstorms and repeated freeze-thaw cycles each winter, all of which are hard on roofs, siding, eavestroughs and wood trim. Mature trees on many older streets add leaf build-up and shade that can hold moisture against the house, so we pay close attention to drainage, flashing and ventilation.

Questions to ask before you hire

Whoever you hire for exterior doors in Windsor, get clear answers to these before signing:

• How will the sill be flashed and supported?
• What happens if the subfloor under the old door is rotted?
• Will the door be finished and adjusted the same day?

Permits and approvals

Building permits in Windsor are issued by the City of Windsor's building department, and zoning rules come from the City's zoning by-law. Requirements depend on the scope of work, so we confirm what applies to your project during planning and handle applications for the work we're doing.
